Save A Dog: Overlooked Pit Bull At Indiana Shelter Finally Gets Forever Home

An overlooked dog in an Indiana animal shelter finally got his forever home.

Rocky, a six-year-old Pit Bull mix, went viral after his local humane society posted a Facebook video in which he looks on eagerly from his room while several potential adopters pass him by.

Unfortunately, Rocky’s story is a familiar one for his breed.

Rocky’s Story

In the video above, which was posted to the Humane Society for Hamilton County’s Facebook page, Rocky wags his tail enthusiastically in hopes of getting some love from the humans walking by.

The post, which has garnered 67 thousand reactions on the site, explains that Rocky has been a resident of the shelter for about a year. Even after the reaction to the video, Rocky still couldn’t find his forever home.

In a Facebook post made two months after the original video, the shelter announced that a family had adopted Rocky. Take a look at Rocky’s sweet face above.

There is a slew of misinformation about Pit Bull Terriers that unfortunately results in negative stereotypes about the breed. Because the most common breed used in illegal dogfighting are Pit Bulls, their vicious reputation precedes them.

Additionally, dogs exposed to dogfighting often need more attention to adapt to a new home. This can present a challenge for potential adopters.

While Pit Bull parents know that these dogs are perhaps the cuddliest kind of dogs around, those who have never had the pleasure of having one of these precious puppers may be fearful.

This misinformation that stokes unwarranted fear is a major reason Pit Bull overpopulation at shelters is an issue. They sometimes require a little more love than some other kinds of dogs, but they deserve it all the same.
